2 Tips For Taking Care Of Your Hearing Aids While Living In A High Humidity Environment

Hearing aids can be your key to understanding the words and sounds around you. While hearing aids tend to be durable, they can malfunction in humid environments. Your device will malfunction because the excess moisture in the air will damage the delicate electronic parts in your hearing aid. Depending on how bad the water damage is, you may be able to repair your hearing aid fairly quickly, or you might need to get a completely new device. Doing so is not only costly, but you will also be inconvenienced for an extended amount of time. Luckily, there are a couple tips that you can use to take care of your hearing aids if you happen to live in a high humidity environment.

Always Bring a Dry Caddy Along with You

The only sure way to protect your hearing aids from humidity is by not wearing them at all. Since this cannot happen, the next best thing is to bring a dry caddy along with you wherever you go. A dry caddy is a storage device that holds your hearing aids. When you place your hearing aids in a dry caddy, the dry caddy will pull all of the excess moisture from your hearing device. The best time to use the dry caddy is when your hearing aids are not in use. For example, if you are alone at home or when you are a passenger in a car, then you may not necessarily need to be wearing your hearing device. The dry caddy will keep your device safe and dry until you are ready to use it again.

Wear a Hearing Aid Sheath

A hearing aid sheath is a breathable fabric that covers your hearing device. The fabric's main function is to keep excess moisture from penetrating the device while allowing for proper ventilation. The fabric is also light enough that it does not disrupt the flow of sound to your hearing device. The sheath should be cleaned periodically in order to prevent dirt and contaminants from building up along the fabric. This can be done by rinsing it with warm water and a few drops of soap. You can purchase a hearing aid sheath from your local grocery store.

Wearing your hearing device in humid temperatures can feel like a challenging task if you want to keep them from getting damaged. Therefore, use these tips to deal with humidity.
