Five Things You Need To Know About Keeping Your Electric Scooter Clean

If you use a mobility scooter to get around, your scooter is an important part of your everyday life. Keeping your scooter clean isn't just important for ensuring your comfort when you're using it to get around. It can also keep your scooter functioning in optimal condition as long as possible.

The following are five important things you need to know about keeping your electric mobility scooter clean:

Make sure you keep all parts on the exterior dusted

Dusting is one of the most important tasks you need to carry out to keep your mobility scooter clean. Dust building up on scooter components can eventually get into mechanical components and prematurely age your scooter.

Those who rely on a scooter to get around know what a huge problem it is when their scooter is malfunctioning. By keeping your scooter free of dust, you can ensure efficient operation of your scooter while preventing mechanical malfunctions.

Purchase a cover to put over the vehicle when you're not using it

As part of your cleaning and maintenance regime, you should have a scooter cover that you place over your scooter when it's not in use. This will prevent dust accumulation and protect your scooter parts from issues like corrosion.

Use a detergent but don't use harsh waxes or abrasive cleaners

You can periodically clean your scooter with a mild detergent and a cloth made from a gentle fabric. However, you need to avoid using any harsh or caustic wax cleaning substance. It's also important to not use abrasive cleaners that will be too hard on the delicate mechanical components that make up your scooter.

Don't allow any electrical components to be exposed to excessive amounts of moisture

While you can use a dampened cloth to do some cleaning, you shouldn't pour water directly onto your scooter. You need to protect metal components and mechanical parts from exposure to water. Water can cause mechanical malfunctions and also make it possible for corrosion to develop on metal parts.

Make sure to wipe the scooter completely dry after cleaning

Be sure to thoroughly dry your entire scooter after each cleaning. Leaving moisture on scooter parts can cause rust to develop. As with any mechanical equipment, rust development can destroy parts over time and create mechanical malfunctions.

Disinfect your scooter

As part of your cleaning regime, you may want to occasionally wipe your scooter down with disinfecting wipes. This will limit the presence of bacteria and viruses on the surface of your scooter.
